Impressive (best-available) image quality for a very reasonable price made the Canon EOS 5D Mark II the ideal choice for serious photographers (both enthusiast and professional) - and it is going to take more than an additional megapixel to convince people to buy a 5D III over a more-affordable 5D II (which has not been discontinued as of 5D III review time).
However, based purely on the measures of image quality, autofocus performance, dynamic range, and low-light shooting, the Nikon D810 and the Sony A7R II outperformed the Canon 5D Mark IV.
