New ABS Modes. The new 2024 Ténéré 700 now offers three-mode selectable ABS allowing riders to choose their preferred level of braking intervention. MODE 1 is the ABS fully activated on both front and rear wheels; MODE 2 enables ABS on front wheel only and turns ABS off on rear wheel; and MODE 3 turns ABS off on both front and rear wheel.

Tenere with 23 lts of fuel = 209kgs wet. KLR 650 with 23lts of fuel = 182kgs wet. DR650, 30 ltr tank with 23lts of fuel around 171kgs wet. I am still recovering from an ankle injury some 6 months ago due to an off in sand on my Tiger 800 XC. The bike did a 180 flip resulting around $5000 damage.

Im not sure whether the older Tenere 660 would be considered a direct competitor to the DR650 but there are a few going at very reasonable prices now that the Tenere 700 is the primary player. Reviews for the Ten660 say that it is top heavy and vibey as it is single cylinder, but probably just as capable as the DR650 on dirt and road.

I have some friends that moved from a DRZ400 or an XR650R to the 690, this makes sense. Similar type of a bike in the weight category. True dual sports. The T7 is a light weight (relatively) ADV bike. Personally I keep 2 bikes. A Super Tenere ES for long distance pavement, easy gravel roads and maybe hard packed trails.
Ktm 990 Adventure. I raised the question of T700 Vs KTM 990 Adv ( NOT the 790 ) as I have been considering how to replace my previous 990 stolen in 2017. I bought a 1987 XT 600 Tenere in the meantime which has been a great pleasure. However it has become obvious that using it to nip across to tour the Alps is not really a comfortable option.
Tenere 700 is also a bigger bike with longer wheelbase, so it will feel more stable on the highway. 390 ADV is more closely compared to the CB500X. They have the same wheel setup, almost the same price, and the same wheelbase. The 390 ADV is 50 lbs lighter, but CB500X has more power and way more torque.

But 690 was (or could be) much better on road IMO. I'm going to be looking at 19' 690/701 with a fairing, seat, extra fuel or T7/790R. Ill be using mine for high speed gravel and B roads, short distance two up, day to multi day rides, daily driver (did almost 19,000 miles on my last 690 in 18 months), and BDR's.
